Edward was born in Newport, Gwent in 1948. He attended Secondary School in Rugby, England, continued his education at Pagefield College before attending Brighton University where he studied Psychology.
He worked for Tesco for 34 years, working his way up from unloading lorries in the warehouse, working in the Customs Department to his final role of sitting on the Tesco Pension Board, until he retired in 2003.
Edward commenced volunteering at the age of eight at the Mission to Seafarers Newport, he continues to volunteer with them and is currently Chairman of the organisation. He currently volunteers with 13 different organisations ranging from Newport Harbour Commissioners to being then Independent Chair of the Welsh Deanery Paediatric Dentistry ARCP/STC and Chairman of Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations.
He has received commendation and awards from various Government Ministers for his work on poverty, ethnic minorities and community cohesion.
