Susan is executive chair of the Board of trustees of LATCH, the Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity, based in the Children’s Hospital for Wales, Cardiff.

She is an independent panel member for misconduct hearing for South Wales Police and is a member of the Independent Advisory Group for Gwent Police, serving on a range of scrutiny panels. Susan undertakes independent employment investigations. After graduating from Cardiff University in 1980 with a B.A Hons in English and History, she qualified as a teacher in 1981. She has an M.Ed. in education law and was awarded NPQH in 2001.

Over twenty-two years of her professional life has been spent in education in Gwent, an area with which she has a strong bond. Susan was Headteacher of Caldicot School Monmouthshire for sixteen years and led the £40m new build programme, culminating in the opening of the 21st century learning campus in South Monmouthshire. Susan served as a governor of Christ College Brecon and was vice chair of governors. Susan was a lay trustee on the Council of Cardiff University for six years and is now a member of the Court of the university and Cylch Caerdydd supporter. She is an additional inspector for Estyn and a trustee of the Diocese of Monmouth Diocesan Trust. Susan and her husband enjoy exploring the countryside with long walks with their dogs.

She was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant in 2018.
